[Movies] JJ Abrams Not Directing Mission Impossible IV Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.28.2009
Plus, will Tom Cruise be replaced?
JJ Abrams recently spoke with MTV regarding his role in Mission Impossible IV. Here is what he had to say…
"I'm producing with Tom. My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie."
There have also been rumors that a younger actor may take over for Cruise, as the focus of the franchise. Abrams also addressed those rumors, stating…
"I don't want to give anything away yet, but I will say that it's a story that will feel consistent with the world that has been created. It's not a reboot kind of thing."
Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Alias) are currently working on the script. You can check out video of the MTV interview below.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers who was part of the team in III would be good to replace him. Good actor and an already established character in that universe.

I say, let's have a Tom Cruise/Peter Graves team-up. Make up some bullshit about how Jon Voight wasn't really Jim Phelps but an imposter that had been put into place years before. Then make a joke about how they don't even look anything alike and we move on from there. At least that way Phelps gets some redemption.

My guess is that Tom Cruise will be killed off at the beginning (or kidnapped) and they other members of his team or his protege will have to find out what who did it.
